August has been a month of community engagement, resident support, and campaign work.
Community Events
Alex attended the ILM Bazaar, supporting local vendors and celebrating community spirit. She also volunteered at the Swindon Libraries Summer Reading Challenge craft morning, helping children with their creative projects and encouraging families to sign up for the challenge.
She joined residents at the Haydon Wick Summer Extravaganza, a day filled with activities and community connection. Alex and Vinay spent time talking with residents.
Residents’ Concerns
While out in the community, Alex picked up a range of issues raised by residents, including:
• Bus timetable questions – clarity on changes and reliability remains a concern for many families and commuters.
• Hedge and shrub cutting requests – several areas were flagged where overgrowth is restricting footpaths and impacting visibility.
• Drainage ditches and winter flood risks – residents are worried that blocked or unmanaged ditches could lead to flooding as the wetter months approach.
Highways & Transport
Concerns were also raised about the wider impact of traffic and transport in Priory Vale, including:
• Parking pressures in residential areas – with more cars per household, limited spaces are causing frustration and potential safety issues.
• Delivery vans parked overnight on local roads – the increase of vans being left in residential streets is affecting access, visibility, and the appearance of neighbourhoods.
Alex has committed to monitoring these issues closely and reporting them where action is needed.
Allotments & Green Space
Alex is supporting Leanne Stevenson’s campaign to protect allotments, recognising the benefits they bring by providing fresh food, giving children access to nature, and offering spaces for relaxation and wellbeing. She has encouraged residents to sign the petition calling on Swindon Borough Council to ensure allotments are safeguarded in future neighbourhood plans.
Looking Ahead
Alex will continue being out in the community, listening to residents, supporting local events, and standing alongside colleagues to protect green spaces and strengthen community life across Priory Vale.
