Winter Watch โ Local Wildlife โ๏ธ๐ฆ
Winter is the hardest season for wildlife. Food becomes scarce and natural water sources often freeze, making survival much more difficult for birds, mammals and insects.
A small amount of nuts or seeds, and a shallow bowl of fresh water, can make a real difference during cold weather. These simple actions help local wildlife get through the toughest months.
This approach reflects the work of Haydon Wick Councilโs WildWick Wildlife Support programme, which focuses on protecting and growing native wildlife across council land and within the wider community.
About WildWick
WildWick supports wildlife by setting aside wildflower areas across Haydon Wick to feed insects and pollinators. Leaving hedgerows and longer grass in places to shelter small mammals and birds. Encouraging nature-friendly planting in parks, verges and council spaces. Working with volunteers to monitor wildlife and plant trees and flowers.
๐ How you can help:
You can support WildWick at home by putting out a small amount of nuts or seeds during winter. Providing fresh, shallow water and checking it regularly when temperatures drop.
Leaving leaf litter, logs or undisturbed areas for shelter. Choosing native plants that flower at different times of year.
Your support helps WildWick strengthen local wildlife populations and build resilience across the parish.
Small actions. Big impact.
