Supporting grass-roots football
We were pleased to support this weekend’s Swindon Supermarine pre-season friendly against Swindon Town Football Club, giving our time to back grassroots football in Swindon.
Volunteers helped run the bar, sold half-time competition tickets, managed the scoreboard and guided people in and out of the ground. Every effort helps keep these important community matches going.
Facilities like The Swindome keep young people active throughout the year. Swindon Supermarine brings people together, supports families and gives the community a place to belong. Grassroots football is the foundation of local sport and community spirit.
But Labour’s tax increases, higher National Insurance and cuts to business rates relief make this much harder. Local businesses that help fund community clubs now face bigger bills and more paperwork. Clubs face the same rising costs for energy and equipment, with less local funding to help close the gap.
Every bit of support counts. Paying match fees, coming along on match days and bringing family and friends all help keep grassroots football strong.
We are grateful to the coaches and volunteers who give their time every week to make local football possible.
The result did not go in Supermarine’s favour but the team performed well, gained valuable match time and built up fitness. Swindon Town put on a good show too and were able to rotate their squad, a positive start for their season.
