Whilst out talking to residents, many asked why street sweeping and weed spraying are not being carried out. These are the responsibility of Swindon Borough Council, yet standards have fallen despite rising council tax. Weeds left to spread and unswept roads affect both the look and safety of our area.
More than a dozen issues have been reported, including seven I submitted personally. Overgrown brambles and uncut tree stubs remain unresolved. Residents are doing their part by reporting problems, but the borough must deliver on its responsibilities.
To help bridge the gap, Haydon Wick Parish Council has begun limited weed spraying as a trial to understand service needs. The parish mini street sweeper will also be used where requested to target problem areas.
A big thank you also to Marco Di Pinto for Stratton St. Margaret and Cllr Jake Chandler - St Andrews for always extending that helpful hand across parishes. Holding the borough to account works best when we stand side by side for our residents.
If you have areas of concern, please get in touch so they can be logged and escalated. Your feedback helps me hold the borough to account.
