Protecting Swindon’s SEND Transport Provision
Labour Swindon delay decision on cuts leaving those using the service worrying
Swindon Borough Council has delayed plans to remove SEND school transport until 2026. While this offers short-term certainty, the service remains at risk.
Transport for young people with additional needs is not a luxury. It is essential. Without it, access to education becomes unequal and families are left to struggle. The annual cost of £726,000 reflects a commitment to inclusion, not excess.
Removing this support would place added pressure on families, schools and care services. It would break the principle that every child should be able to attend school safely and without barriers.
We are calling for the full protection of this service beyond 2026. No child should be left behind due to cost-cutting.
