No U-turns on Thamesdown Drive pt2
Adding additional traffic measures to improve safety
Following yesterday’s post about No U-turns on Thamesdown Drive, this update covers the next set of junctions included in the new rules.
I started this work more than 2 years ago to make Thamesdown Drive safer and keep traffic moving.
Road safety comprises of 3 parts. Engineering, education, and enforcement. This No U Turn rule is the engineering change. Next comes education so drivers understand the rule, then enforcement. There is ongoing work for red light and speed enforcement, which is more complicated as it needs the speed partnership with the police to be reintroduced.
Whilst it may not appear a daily issue, this issue does occur. Unsafe U turns have caused many near crashes. The new rule will stop U turns at key junctions on Thamesdown Drive.
It will apply at:
• Eastbury Way and Orbital junction
• Lady Lane and Elstree Way junction
• Elstree Way (Ash Brake) and Elstree Way (Abbey Meads) junction
• Salzgitter Drive junction
• Latham Road and Thresher Drive junction (Aldi)
This applies in both directions and supports safer crossings at the green man signal. The consultation is finished and the changes will now be put in place.
